Continue reading to learn more about All-on-4® and how it can be used to replace teeth that are not in the best shape.
A quick guide to All-on-4® for damaged teeth
Below is an overview of the All-on-4® method and how it can be used to replace teeth that are damaged. This information may be useful to individuals who are looking into their tooth replacement options.
What is All-on-4?
All-on-4 refers to a method of tooth replacement that uses four dental implants and one denture piece, per arch. An entire arch of teeth, whether it be upper or lower, can be completely replaced using just four dental implants.
The All-on-4 process works in a few steps. In the case of replacing existing damaged teeth, extraction will be necessary. Next, four dental implants will be evenly placed throughout the arch in a minimally invasive oral surgery. After a few months of healing and osseointegration, abutments can be attached to each implant. Abutments connect the implants to the denture piece, which will be permanently placed after it is made. To finish, the denture piece is attached, thus completing the All-on-4 process.
Addressing damaged teeth
Most commonly, All-on-4 has been used to replace missing teeth; however, as teeth become damaged, they begin to deteriorate. If nothing is done to stop the deterioration then tooth replacement may be the only realistic option. Tooth replacement with All-on-4 will not only restore the functionality of the mouth but also improve oral health in a way that no other tooth replacement method can. The dental implants are used to stimulate the jawbone, which helps to keep it intact, as far as structurally and functionally.
Other things to know about All-on-4
When considering All-on-4 for tooth replacement, it is good to know that the process can be involved, especially in the case of replacing damaged teeth. Because the oral cavity is such a sensitive part of the body, each step cannot be done one after another. Instead, there will be significant periods of waiting in between each step as this allows for proper healing to take place, a very necessary part of replacing teeth.
While the results are worth the wait, it is important to set realistic expectations from the start.
